ALTERNATIVE GRADUATE
SHOW 2018
The ceremonious act of graduating from an institution is a symbolic and momentous occasion for many immigrant parents and their offspring. Unfortunately due to survival we’re socialised to think “the arts” typically do not fall into the category of a legitimate career path. We’re determined to reclaim the “graduation” process and remodel it into something accessible for all as well as truly beneficial.
The BBZ BLK BK: Alternative Graduate Show challenges what it means for artists to identify as they do and also what the qualities of the work are beyond its Blackness and its Queerness.
A yearly show open to the public for submissions and held at Copeland Gallery in Peckham. Giving Queer Black artists the opportunity and platform to have their work seen and critiqued by a panel of highly respected artists, press and influential galleries. As well as meet and work with other artists during the process.
Our 2018 show was Co-Curated by Imani Robinson & Rabz Lansiquot of sorryyoufeeluncomfortable and Alumni have gone on to be represented and have solo shows and/or exhibit at Tate, Von Goetz, Transmission Glasgow, Rijksakademie, Cob Gallery and ICA just to name a few.
