1. Practice: Painter
2. Location: Brighton/London
“My work explores Black British girlhood and relationships that surround black womxn. Influenced by music, film/TV and also the culture and community that surrounds my life. The paintings are a look into the lives of black women focusing on adolescence, creating a nostalgic documentation of the exploration of sexuality, comfort and friendships that young black girls experience.”
What do you find most inspiring about the art/world right now?
Everyone who is breaking their way into the art world by setting up their own creative spaces from exhibitions to platforms. I think they’re the way forward.
How do you determine success?
People connecting with my artwork and feeling something.
Tell us about a creative (queer POC) the world should be paying attention to.
René Matić she’s a conceptual artist I love how her work challenges society and institutions.
How have the cloud/cloud communities helped you?
Cloud communities made me “woke” they continually provide me with education on issues that I’m ignorant on. They’ve helped me feel connected to a larger community when I’ve felt isolated in the physical world. The groups I belong to mostly help me by sharing joy, providing infinite banter and help with any problem or query you could imagine.
What do you want to convey to the rest of the world?
I want to project in my paintings something that black women can relate to and see the complexities of their identities reflected in and I want others to recognise this also. As a person I just want to project joy and self love two life goals that are the most important to me.
